13th July 1944 – Russian forces capture Vilna (now Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania).
In Britain a Junkers 88 German fighter plane lands by mistake at Woodbridge RAF airfield in Suffolk. It is equipped with the latest SN-2 radar and radar interception devices enabling the British to quickly devise countermeasures. (See Lichtenstein radar.)
