The 'Declaration by United Nations', a plan for a new world organisation (which led to the UN Charter) was signed by 26 governments including the US, UK, China and the Soviet Union at the beginning of January 1942.
Later that month, on 20th January, Germany formally adopted a policy to exterminate all Jews codenamed 'the Final Solution'. This horrendous genocide is remembered every year on Holocaust Memorial Day, the 27th January.
